Economic Girlymen, I love it

Well, despite my earlier intent not to watch the convention, I decided to go ahead and watch tonight because I was interested in what Governor Arnold would have to say. I agree 100% with what he said and reaffirm that I am absolutely proud to have voted for him. If there was ever an argument for a 27th ammendment allowing immigrants to become President, he is it. His Economy Girlymen line was classic. It's also spot on. The Democrats are all a tizzy about slamming Bush saying that he hasn't done enough to help to economy. Quite honestly, I (and most Republicans I would argue) do not feel that the Government should do much to "help" the economy. The American economy has a way of taking care of itself and it has nothing to do with who is in office, it has to do with the ingenuity and perseverance of the American people. Those people who have lost their jobs in the recent recession need to suck it up and move on, use the opportunity that living in this country gives them and come up with the next great thing that continues to make this country great. The economy will take care of itself. It always does. The best thing the government can do is get out of the way.

Regarding Laura Bush. She's classy. The speech was a bit akward but following that dismal performance by the twins was a relatively good save. Even my wife who typically ignores the TV whenever I have it on political stuff had to watch and comment on the twins. She hated it. Thought they were awful. It's a good thing we've already decided to vote for Bush because his daughters sure didn't do anything good for him. Laura could have talked more about the decision process leading up to the war in Iraq. Too many people think that the war was predetermined; that Bush wanted to go to war. Personally I think that point of view is foolish but others need convincing. Presidents need to be seen as thoughtful as they are decisive. She could have made that point much more powerfully.

Overall, a good night I think. The theme of the night was best articulated by Arnold: you don't have to agree with the President on every issue in order to support him. Arnold doesn't. Heck Cheney doesn't. For what it's worth, I certainly do not. But I respect the fact that he has consistently stuck to his convictions, his values and his decisions. He's stood up for what he believed in spite of the popular opinion. Kerry, on the other hand, can't seem to figure out what he believes in or even what he voted for.
