Thin Pipes

Yahoo Pipes: “As many of you noticed, we’ve had some downtime today as we try to cope with the unexpected heavy load

I haven’t yet taken the time to play around with Pipes yet; and to be absolutely honest, given that it doesn’t produce Atom, I’m not sure I’m really all that interested anyway. However, the one thing that struck me most was this statement about “unexpected heavy load”…

I’m sorry, “unexpected heavy load”? This is the Web. Yahoo has been doing this stuff for years. They should know better.

you are right that they should know better. my bet is on a marketing ploy. i think it got even more word of mouth with the downtime than it would have had it been up.

Clearly you need to listen more carefully to Alaskan senators on this topic. The tubes can only take so much, dangit. Yahoo needs to buy a truck.

Okay, more seriously: We should press Yahoo to support Atom, instead of ignoring Pipes altogether. They are using Google Base as one source, so the potential for a mixed grill probably exists.

It’s not so much that I’m ignoring it as much as it is that I simply don’t have the time to mess around with it. If it mixed and mashed Atom and produced Atom as a result, it would be directly relevant to some of things I’ve been working on lately. Since it doesn’t produce Atom (at least not as far as I can tell) there’s really nothing I can do with it right now that would be useful to me.
