CallVantage

Well… I just received a letter in the mail from AT&T…

AT&T will no longer offer AT&T CallVantage service in areas where A911 is the only 911 service available. All customers who currently have A911 service must be moved to E911 service (where available) or their AT&T CallVantage service will be disconnected. Currently, you have A911 service and we are not able to offer E911 service in your area… You may transition your phone number to an alternate service provider or discontinue service… Your AT&T CallVantage service will be suspended on May 21st… We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Well, golly, thanks guys. You just permanently lost a customer who was otherwise reasonably happy with the service.

Let me see if I got this straight. AT&T just fired you as a customer because they don’t like you 911 service?

  2. James Says:

    Essentially, yes.

It’s more important to AT&T to offer only E911 service than it is to have James as a customer.

They could be doing this for regulatory, competitive, or liability issues. Sucks, though.

After talking with them, the reasoning behind the decision is sound, however, the primary reason they’re having to drop me is because they don’t have any local area codes available, which is a business decision on their part and not a regulatory issue. So, essentially, yeah, it comes down to my business not being very important to them. I just signed up with Vonage. That’ll get hooked up in a couple of days.

I just wanted to point out that you used the word “golly”. ;)

I’m being fired for the same reason except my address has E911 but they won’t acknowledge it. The best part is I tried to sign up for service again at their website using the same address and it lets me, only now for a higher price. What is this REALLY about!!!?

Heh… Tyler, I’ve also been known to utter the words “y’all”, “shucks” and “dag’un”. :-)
